Colorado Mission Trip. June 10 - 18, 2005
Hello CrossTrainers friends!
I wanted to share some information with you about the FUMC Mission Trip to Colorado. This is an adult-only trip (we won't be chaperoning youth like most mission trips involve.) The group will leave the evening of June 10 by bus and return on June 18. Our destination is Buckhorn Camp, a Methodist camp similar in function to our Lakeview Camp here in Texas. Buckhorn Camp is located about an hour north of Denver, CO.
Picture this... (this is called visual imagery and it is a wonderful stress management technique - imagine being there in person)... Deep grassy meadows full of wildflowers... surrounded by pine forests with squirrels, birds, cute little chipmunks... look to the east and you can gaze upon snow-capped mountain peaks... look west and cast your eyes upon silver lakes and green prairies... June temperatures average a high of 81 and a low of 51, with of course, very low humidity levels... ahhhhhhhh..... anyone ready to pack? Buckhorn Camp offers a place of spiritual retreat in the midst of one of God's most beautiful cathedrals - the Rocky Mountains. Our group will be building a new dormitory to serve the Christian community. During June, Buckhorn will be hosting Camp Hope - a summer camp for mentally and physically disabled adults. We should have an opportunity to share and celebrate the Good News with the campers.
Of course, it can't be all work and no play. Buckhorn Camp is a nature lover's delight with hiking trails, fishing, horseback riding, etc. There is also whitewater rafting! I have no doubt that we will find plenty of enjoyment - not to mention the fun fellowship of our group! To find out more about the camp, check out www.buckhorncamp.org.
The cost for the trip is just $350 and covers the cost of transportation, lodging, and meals. What a deal for a week in Colorado! There are scholarships available, so if you are willing to serve God, don't let finances be an excuse to say no to Him.
We hope to have at least 30 adults from the church, and we might have a few folks from a couple of other Methodist churches joining us for the bus ride. I will have extra registration forms available during Sunday School, or you can contact Rev. Charles Thompson at 713-458-4704. Space is filling up so you want to get your registration in soon. I am already signed-up, and I would dearly love to share this experience with each person from the Single Purpose & CrossTrainers. Please consider this mission opportunity with an open mind and a lot of prayer.
Blessings,
